- The Town of Perinton pulls its own permits separate from the county, and egress windows get inspected closely on any basement bedroom.
- Newer colonials off Baird and Turk Hill often have three-car garages, which sometimes means the basement stair or bilco access is tucked in an odd spot we plan around.
- Homes closer to the canal on the west end run older and can have block foundations that need more moisture work before we frame anything.
- Rt 250 and Rt 31 corridor lots tend to be larger, which usually means more basement square footage but also more distance for utility runs.

Do I need a permit to finish a basement in Perinton?
Yes. The Town of Perinton requires a building permit for finished basement space, and egress gets checked closely if you’re adding a bedroom. We handle the application and inspections as part of the job.
My house is off Turk Hill and has a sump pump already. Is that basement ready to finish?
A working sump is a good start but we still test the walls and slab for moisture before framing. Some of these 1980s and 90s colonials get damp along the back wall where grading slopes toward the house.
How long does a basement in a typical Perinton colonial take?
Most of the big open basements common in Perinton’s newer colonials run several weeks depending on how much square footage you’re finishing and whether we’re adding a bathroom or wet bar rough-in.
